Two more petitions have been submitted to the Secretary of State’s office. I-2109 would repeal the capital gains income tax on income, and I-2111 would bar the state from enacting an income tax. 

I-2109 was submitted with over 419,000 signatures and I-2111 had over 437,000 signatures. 

Both measures are a response to the capital gains income tax that was passed in 2021. 

After certification by the Secretary of State, the measures will become bills before the 2024 legislative session. The legislature can pass the bills as is which would make them law. If they take no action, they will go to a vote of the people in the 2024 general election. They can also offer an alternative that would appear alongside the initiative proposal.
